Where this fits in an SSG Fox program
VA describes most SSG Fox services as non-clinical. Alongside outreach, case management, and peer support, the program allows other services VA approves, and its FY2027 notice lists examples such as adaptive sports, recreational therapy, and non-clinical group counseling. Neurova Academy is general wellness programming a grantee can propose in that category, next to the suicide prevention services the grantee delivers itself. VA approves each service and asks applicants to supply evidence or outcomes for anything nontraditional.
What a grantee settles in the first quarter
An award is a budget and a delivery obligation arriving on the same day. Four things have to be in place before a program serves anyone.
A place to deliver
Participants stand in place and use about a square meter. A cycle fits a room the organization already has, with no exam room and no medical records system.
Staff who can run it
Facilitator training and certification are included with access and delivered remotely. Facilitators run sessions. They do not diagnose, assess, or treat anything.
A schedule participants keep
Five consecutive days, one session a day of about thirty minutes. Day one is orientation. The commitment is short and defined.
A record of who completed what
Each cycle has a clear start and finish, so completion is a simple count. The program runs offline and collects no personally identifiable information in normal use.
INSIDE EVERY SESSION
Six phases, thirty minutes.
01 Activate
You start moving. Bilateral boxing and color-matched targets bring your body and your attention online at the same time.
02 Challenge
The difficulty climbs to meet you. More targets, faster decisions, calibrated to how you are performing.
03 Sequence
Handling objects, following procedural steps, and finishing tasks while the load is on.
04 React
Scanning walls, randomized target patterns, and targets at varying depths, working your reaction speed.
05 Switch
Punch, dodge, shoot, reload, and navigate inside an environment that keeps moving. Switching between them is the whole point.
06 Recover
Every session ends on purpose. Guided box breathing, binaural audio cueing, and a deliberate downshift before you take the headset off.

Eligibility and allowable costs
The Department of Veterans Affairs administers the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program. Questions about eligibility, allowable costs, subcontracting, and reporting belong with VA, which publishes the program guide and the notice of funding opportunity.
Neurova Labs is a for-profit company and is not an eligible applicant for this program. Neurova Academy is a general wellness and cognitive training program designed to support focus, stress regulation, and mental endurance. It is not a suicide prevention intervention, and we make no claim that it reduces suicide risk.
ABOUT NEUROVA LABS
Veteran founded. Veteran led.
Based out of Utah, Neurova Labs is veteran founded and veteran led. CEO and founder Brenden Borrowman, PhD, is a retired U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Chief Medical Officer Marc Ó Gríofa, MD, PhD, leads scientific and clinical direction.
Neurova Academy was developed from clinical modalities built for clients in an inpatient program through neurology research, then translated into virtual reality. Program development was guided by fNIRS and fNCI conducted at a neurological treatment center.
Before your first session
Neurova Academy runs on a commercially available VR headset, and the manufacturer's health and safety guidance applies. The headset is not for children under 10. Talk to a doctor before use if you are pregnant, elderly, or have a heart condition, a psychiatric condition, binocular vision abnormalities, or another serious medical condition. A small number of people experience seizures or blackouts triggered by flashing lights or patterns. Some people feel nausea, dizziness, disorientation, or eye strain. Stop if you do, and do not drive until you have fully recovered. Sessions are done standing, and the space is cleared before you begin.
If you hold an FY2027 award
Send us your organization's name and the counties you serve, and we will walk through what implementation looks like in your building, what it costs, and what your staff would need. You will get a written answer. If it is a poor fit, we will tell you.
